About the instrument
An instrument that shows its work
96 questions · 24 dimensions · 6 axes · 64 archetypes
PersonalityLoom is a personality assessment built like a measuring instrument: every number it shows can be traced back to the answers you gave. This page explains the method — what is measured, how it is measured, and what the result does and does not mean.
What it measures
The model has six axes. Each axis is measured through four narrower dimensions — 24 in all — and every dimension is scored from 0 to 100 using nothing but your answers.
The six axes, and the four dimensions behind each one:
- Energy — Outgoing or Reflective: sociability, social boldness, liveliness, expressiveness.
- Cognition — Visionary or Practical: creativity, inquisitiveness, aesthetic appreciation, unconventionality.
- Values — Empathic or Analytical: forgiveness, gentleness, flexibility, patience.
- Structure — Organized or Flexible: organization, diligence, prudence, perfectionism.
- Resilience — Steady or Sensitive: fearfulness, anxiety, dependence and sentimentality, each counted in reverse — the more of these an answer shows, the lower the axis reads.
- Self-presentation — Unassuming or Status-seeking: directness, even dealing, material indifference, understatement.
Each axis resolves to one of its two poles, and the six poles together form a six-letter code. Two possibilities on each of six axes gives 64 combinations — that is where the 64 archetypes come from. The archetype is a summary of the reading, not a replacement for it: the full report keeps all 24 dimension scores in view.
How a sitting works
The base assessment is 96 statements — exactly four for each of the 24 dimensions — answered one at a time on a five-point agree–disagree scale. Questions are interleaved across dimensions from start to finish, so every dimension, and therefore every axis, is read from real data rather than guessed.
Just under a third of the statements — 29 of the 96 — are reverse-coded: phrased in the opposite direction, so that agreeing with one scores like disagreeing with its counterpart. This is a standard guard against the habit of simply agreeing with everything, and it is a partial guard rather than a fix: the evidence that reverse wording removes that habit is mixed. The methodology page gives the counts for both sitting lengths, and names the one dimension that currently carries no reverse-coded statement at all.
Confidence, measured and shown
Every dimension score carries a confidence band. The band is the spread in your own answers on that dimension, divided by the square root of the number of answers behind it: answer a scale consistently and the band is narrow, answer it across the full range and the band is wide — at the very same number of questions.
The band comes from your answers alone, with one stated exception: we never print a band narrower than ±3. Answering all four statements on a dimension identically gives an arithmetic spread of exactly zero, and printing ±0 would claim a precision that four questions cannot support, so the floor stands in. There is no comparison group behind it and no figure in it we could not show you the arithmetic for. Skipping a question never bends a score; it only widens the band on the dimension that question belonged to. After the 96 base questions you may continue to 192, which puts eight statements behind each dimension instead of four and narrows every band. Whether to continue is always your choice.
From answers to result
Scoring is deterministic arithmetic, not judgement. A dimension score is the average of your normalized answers, an axis score is read from its four dimensions, and the archetype is read from the six axis poles. The same answers always produce the same result.
The free result is your archetype's name and a summary. The premium report is composed from your own scores by the same deterministic process — it is not written by an AI. The one genuinely AI-powered part of PersonalityLoom is the growth guide, which comes with full access for a year: a document written once from your scores, on how your profile shows up in daily life and how to work with it.
What this is not
PersonalityLoom is a self-report instrument. It has not been clinically validated, peer reviewed, or published as research, and it is not a diagnostic tool — it cannot detect, confirm, or rule out any condition.
What it offers is a careful, transparent reading of how you described yourself on a particular day. Treat the result as a well-made mirror, not a verdict: useful for reflection and conversation, and always open to revision as you change.
Judge it yourself
The quickest way to judge an instrument is to sit with it. The base test is free, and the free result — your archetype's name and a summary — is yours to keep.
